Most sympathy flowers go to the family's home

Sympathy flowers are about a quarter of everything we send: more than 600 arrangements in the past year. Almost all of them went to a family's home rather than to a funeral service. If you're comforting someone who is grieving, a vase arrangement is the kindest choice: it arrives ready to display and asks nothing of them. If you're contributing to the service itself, our funeral flowers are made for funeral homes and chapels.

Sending to a funeral home? Put the venue name, the service date and time, and the name of the person being remembered in your delivery notes, and we'll time the delivery for the service.

Funeral homes and chapels we deliver to

We regularly deliver to funeral homes and chapels around our Cheltenham studio, including:

  • W.D. Rose Funerals, Cheltenham
  • Tobin Brothers Funerals, Cheltenham, Noble Park and Mount Martha
  • Russell Brothers Funeral Directors, Mentone
  • Le Pine Funerals, Dandenong
  • Bunurong Memorial Park chapels, Dandenong South

Sending somewhere else? We deliver to any funeral home or chapel in our delivery area. If you're not sure we reach it, call us on (03) 5985 7040.

Sympathy, condolence and bereavement flowers: what to send

Sympathy, condolence and bereavement flowers all mean the same thing: flowers sent to comfort someone who is grieving. White sympathy flowers and cream tones are the traditional choice, symbolising peace and remembrance, and are always appropriate. Soft blush, lilac and pastel tones feel warmer for a close friend or family member. Australian natives last well and suit someone who loved the outdoors. And a peace lily or other potted plant lasts long after cut flowers. If the person you're thinking of is unwell rather than grieving, our get well soon flowers may be a better fit.

Card messages

What to write on a sympathy card

Short and sincere is always best. Here are sympathy card messages our customers often choose, by who they're for. Add yours at checkout and we print it on a card that goes out with the flowers.

Short and simple

  • “Thinking of you.”
  • “With deepest sympathy.”
  • “So sorry for your loss.”
  • “Holding you close in our thoughts.”

For a friend

  • “I'm so sorry. I'm here for you, whenever you need me.”
  • “Sending you love and strength, and a big hug.”

For a colleague

  • “Thinking of you and your family at this sad time. From all of us at work.”
  • “Please accept our sincere condolences. Take all the time you need.”

Loss of a mum or dad

  • “Your mum was such a warm and generous person. Thinking of you all.”
  • “Wishing you peace and comfort as you remember your dad.”

Loss of a partner

  • “Thinking of you as you grieve. They will be so deeply missed.”
  • “Sending love to you and the family. We're here for anything you need.”

Remembering them

  • “Celebrating a life beautifully lived.”
  • “Forever in our hearts.”
How it works

Three simple steps

1

Choose the flowers

A bouquet, a vase arrangement or a plant. If you're unsure, a vase arrangement in whites and greens is always appropriate.

2

Add the details

The delivery address, the date, your card message, and the funeral home and service time if it's for a service.

3

We make it and deliver it

Arranged that morning in our Cheltenham studio and delivered with care between 8am and 7pm.

Sympathy flower questions

Can I get sympathy flowers delivered same day in Melbourne?

Yes. Order by 12pm Monday to Friday, or 9am Saturday, and we deliver the same day across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, to more than 430 suburbs. We deliver Monday to Saturday, except public holidays.

When should I order flowers for a funeral service?

Order by 12pm on the business day before the service so the flowers arrive in good time. For a Monday service, order by 9am Saturday. Put the funeral home, the service date and time, and the name of the person being remembered in the delivery notes.

Which funeral homes do you deliver to?

We deliver to funeral homes and chapels across our delivery area, including W.D. Rose Funerals and Tobin Brothers in Cheltenham, Russell Brothers Funeral Directors in Mentone, Le Pine Funerals in Dandenong, Tobin Brothers in Noble Park and Mount Martha, and the chapels at Bunurong Memorial Park.

Should I send sympathy flowers to the home or to the funeral?

Most people send them to the family's home: almost all of the sympathy flowers we deliver go to a home rather than a service. A vase arrangement is kindest there because it needs no care. Flowers for the service itself are usually larger tribute pieces, see our funeral flowers.

What's the difference between sympathy, condolence and bereavement flowers?

They mean the same thing: flowers sent to comfort someone who is grieving, usually to their home. "Sympathy" and "condolence" are the everyday words, and "bereavement flowers" is a little more formal. Flowers sent to the funeral service itself are usually called funeral or tribute flowers.

What are the best flowers to send for sympathy?

White and cream arrangements are the traditional choice and are always appropriate. Soft pastels feel warmer for a close friend or family member, and Australian natives last well and suit someone who loved the outdoors. A potted peace lily lasts long after cut flowers.

How much do sympathy flowers cost?

Our sympathy flowers start from $79. Delivery is priced by suburb and shown at checkout.

What should I write on a sympathy card?

Keep it short and sincere, for example "Thinking of you and your family", "With deepest sympathy" or "Holding you close in our thoughts". Add your message at checkout and we print it on a card that goes out with the flowers. See the sympathy card messages above for more ideas.

Can I send sympathy flowers from interstate or overseas?

Yes. Order online from anywhere and enter the Melbourne delivery address at checkout. If timing is tight, call us on (03) 5985 7040.

Need help with a sympathy order?

Tell us who it's for and where it's going, and we'll help you choose and get the timing right. Studio open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
